Interview with Mrs.Marcia Pugliese

Stories Around the Lake

Rory Nelen interviewed Mrs.Marcia Pugliese, her grandmother, on March 31, 2017

Marcia Pugliese was born in Cooperstown, NY. One of the things that Marcia liked about Cooperstown was that she always felt so safe and she never felt lonely. One of Marcia’s favorite places is the lake. When Marcia goes on her boat, all of her stress and worries go away. She sits on her boat for hours and just hangs out with her friends and family. When Marcia was younger, she loved to play with her friends and family. She liked to go to the playground and she liked to go to Fairy Springs.

Marcia is connected with the local community in many ways. She goes to Saint Mary’s church every Sunday. She works for the Cary Mede estate on Otsego Lake. She does everything for them. Her job is connected with the lake because Cary Mede is on the lake. There is lots of history there. Their boathouse is the oldest boathouse in Cooperstown! The house next to Cary Mede was owned by George Washington's helper. George Washington used to come here with his helper who owned the house next to where Marcia works.

One of the things that Marcia wished her kids and grandchildren had like she did in Cooperstown was the movie theater, and all of the other stores that there were when she was growing up. She said that Main Street was awesome! One of the changes that Marcia doesn't like is that most of the stores on Main Street are baseball stores.

Some words of wisdom that Marcia gave to young people today are, “Stop playing on your electronics all the time and live your life.” Listen to our interview to hear more of Marcia Pugliese’s wisdom and experience.
