Interview with Katie Coleman ( Nonny )

“Don’t forget to have fun”

Hello, my name is Avery and I interviewed Mrs. Katie Coleman, my grandma. Katie was born and raised in Cooperstown. She has always lived and worked here.

She enjoyed playing with her brothers and sisters when she was younger. She liked to water ski and swim with the family boat.

Katie says that the town was much smaller and that there were no baseball shops on Main Street like there are today. There was a shoe shop and a grocery store on Main Street. Since the town was very small, she enjoyed walking to her friend’s house often.

Katie was a Candy Striper at Bassett Hospital which allowed her to volunteer to work at the hospital. She liked the job a lot so she decided to work there as an adult. Katie works in a lab in Bassett to this day. She does the study of tissue. She cuts the slides to help the doctors.

Katie belongs to an organization which helped her stop drinking alcohol. She says that it is a very important part of her life and it helped make her who she is today.

When asked what she would change about Cooperstown, Katie said she wants to change all the focus on baseball. She says that Cooperstown is more focused on tourists than the people who live here. She wants Cooperstown to go back to the way it was when she was growing up.

Listen to our interview to hear more of my grandmother’s wisdom and experience.
